TapAndTalk is a free, web-based audio communication board. It lets you record words, phrases or sounds onto colourful numbered buttons — then tap a button to play it back instantly. It's designed to support communication in classrooms, therapy settings and at home, particularly for children and adults with speech, language or communication needs.
Yes, completely. There is no charge to create an account, save boards or use any feature on the site. TapAndTalk is a personal project built to be genuinely useful, not a commercial product.
To save your boards permanently, you need to create a free account at tapandtalk.co.uk/soundboard. Once you're logged in, everything you record and set up is saved to your account and will be there whenever you come back, on any device.
If you visit the homepage without logging in, you can still use TapAndTalk as a guest — but anything you create will be lost as soon as you close the browser tab.
TapAndTalk is designed to be used with children, rather than by children independently. Accounts are intended for adults — teachers, therapists, parents or carers — who set up and manage the boards. Children then use the device to tap the buttons, but they do not need their own account and should not be registering directly.
If you are setting up TapAndTalk for use with a child, we recommend that an adult creates and manages the account, and that the device is supervised during use.
Once you're logged in, click any button to open the edit panel. You'll see a Record button — click it, allow microphone access when prompted, say your word or phrase, then click Stop. You can preview the recording before saving. Audio can be recorded at any time, independently of the button's label or emoji, so you can set up the appearance of your board on a computer and record the audio later on a phone for better sound quality.
Yes. TapAndTalk works on phones, tablets and computers. The layout adjusts automatically for smaller screens. Recording audio on a phone often produces clearer results than on a laptop, so many people set up the appearance of their board on a desktop and then record the audio on their phone.
To request deletion of your account and all associated data, please contact us using the email address you registered with. We will delete your account, boards, recordings and email address within 7 days of receiving your request.
Only you. Your boards, recordings and account details are private to your account and are not visible to other users. TapAndTalk does not sell, share or use your data for advertising. For full details, please read our Privacy Policy.
